This morning I was so excited I almost peed my pants when Ashley and I decided on doing lunch at Taj Palace, and Indian lunch buffet! Wheeeee! As most of you know, I spent 5 1/2 glorious weeks in India a few years ago and I am in love with the food!
Well, I don’t look like I love it in that picture but it was the only picture I had of me with food in India which I find rather amazing since all we did was eat but whatev.
Back track. Morning snack.
First yogurt I have had all week!
And I couldn’t even finish it.
Normally, I eat at noon. But we weren’t going to lunch til 1. So I had a tiny snack.
Thank you, Larabar! Yum!
Ok ok! Taj Palace!
I started with a chai.
And ended up drinking 3 cups. Oops.
I loaded up my plate with all the goods.
Break it down, now!
Some Salad
Vegetable Pakora (were just ok).
Chili Chicken (good, seemed more Chinese).
Some rice is hiding in there.
Lamb Meatballs (just ok).
Tandoori chicken (standard).
Some other kind of chicken I can’t remember the name of, tasted like butter chicken.
Potatoes with Beans (meh).
My fav = okra! Always my fav Indian dish. Did not disappoint.
Overall experience: average. I never really expect great things from a buffet. I was hoping they would have more vegetarian dishes. And they didn’t have the sauce for the pakoras I liked. And the spinach paneer dish looked scary so I didn’t get it and they had no daal (lentils).
But I had a good time chatting with the girls and this was their first Indian food experience (I can’t believe people don’t eat Indian regularly!) and they thought it was decent. Next time, no buffet. I’m going to show them how it’s done.
Is there any food that you love now that you used to hate and vice versa?
I used to hate coconut. Now I like it a lot! Coconut milk, Coconut Bliss, shredded coconut, Coconut Larabars, Coconut water.
I used to love black olives. Now I can’t stand them! I do like kalamata’s and others though, which I previously didn’t. Weird, hu?
So at the end of the day, I got some news from the doctor that for the next test they were going to run on me, I’d have to have a 100 grams a day of fat for five days.
Um, what?
Are you serious?
Ugh.
Obviously, I would rather load up on healthy fats so I racked my brain really quick and we made an unplanned trip to the grocery store to help me prepare for the next 5 days.
Costco Trip:
- Phat Salmon
- Phat Artichoke Dip
- Phat Salami
- Phat Alfredo
- Phat Mixed Nuts
- Phat Avocado
- Asparagus, Mushroom, Bananas
QFC Phat Trip:
- Phat Fage
- Phat 1/2 & 1/2
- Phat Greek Gods Yogurt
- Phat Coconut Milk
- Phat Soy Dream Ice Cream (for me)
- Phat B&J (for boy)
- Un-Phat brown rice
- Un-Phat Brown Cow Yogurt (boy)
- And impulse buy Stonyfield Smoothies (Thanks to a coupon!)
Let the phat-ness begin! I’m going to be tracking on TDP again for the purpose of these 5 days. I am not caring about calories at all. I expect to put on a few pounds that will come right off again. I estimate that I am probably doubling my average daily fat intake. Other friends for these 5 days:
- eggs
- almond butter
- ground flax
- cheese
- olives
This ought to be interesting! Obviously, I’ll be letting you know how it goes.
Dinner was a quick and easy tonight.
We grilled Spicy Chipotle Black Bean Burgers topped with onion, Jamaican cheese, lettuce, mayo and a side of spicy corn.
But first, we had some chips and salsa while we cooked to take the edge off.
This salsa was made by my coworker, with all the ingredients (except spices and onion) coming out of her own garden! Yay! Doesn’t get any better than that!
The boy and I are probably going to graze on these all night.
For the spicy corn, I just sauté onion, garlic, bell pepper, and jalapeno with some frozen corn and add a dash of cumin and salt.
Onions make me cry.
The corn was so spicy, we had to have beer.
The boy did a great job manning the grill!
Mega full.
I didn’t finish my corn.
So I played with it instead.
Tomorrow is a scheduled crazy day. And phat filled.
Peace!

At least you’re being smart and loading up on the healthy (and yummy) stuff like nut butter and avocado. I know if I was told that, my first stop would be the Mexican food joint and Cold Stone
but I know I’d regret that when the test was over.
LEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just found your blog and I love it!! You were always such a great healthy chef. I can’t wait to read all your future blogs.
Oooh, I learned to love Indian food when we lived in England (obviously the best food to be had there…) but you really turned me on to much more then the restraunts served. We are definitly having an Indian feast when you come to visit, only wish that GF had paneer available.

[...] I also got some great suggestions for extra sources of fat: coconut, hummus, flax oil, fish oil supplements and low or full fat dairy (like yogurt). Today mayonnaise magically occurred to me. Leah also suggested Mexican food, which made me laugh. She’d know though – her doctor put her on a 100g of fat a day diet! [...]
