Guest Post: Spicy Oats

Leah’s Note: Watching Allison eat spicy oats for weeks gave me the courage to give it a shot! You can read about my adventures here and here!

Hi guys!  It’s Allison from Green Dog Wine!   If you read my blog – you probably know by now a short list of things I love – my husband, my dog, the color green, wine – and FRANK’S HOT SAUCE!  That being said – I thought I’d share a spicy story with you!  If you want to see me go on and on about my favorite things – check me out at Green Dog Wine!

The birth of Spicy Oats:

I never cared for oatmeal very much – and when I started to lose weight and eat a healthier diet – it was like someone had flipped a switched.

I was intrigued by oatmeal – I actually WANTED to try it and like it – and sure enough – I did.  :)

Everything from sweet to spicy to salty to crazy – I’ve tried it.  What has become my favorite breakfast – I had serious doubts about the first time I made it.  Spicy Oatmeal.

I suffer from a hot sauce addiction – I think Frank’s Red Hot belongs on every food under the sun.  One morning – I decided oatmeal shouldn’t be excluded.  I put my brain to work, and came up with a combination of Quick Cook Steel Cut Oats (from TJ’s – my very favorite):

and added 1 poached egg, and 1 Morning Star Sausage Patty.  I added just the right amount of hot sauce for me (about ¼ of the bottle!), and topped it with a sprinkle of dried chives!   Absolute heaven in a bowl!

Here’s a few examples from the past year:

Now that I’ve gone spicy – it’s hard for me to go back to sweet, although that does make for a nice change everyone once in a while!

Next time you are feeling adventurous – try it out – I promise it won’t disappoint!  :)

  2. These look SOOO good! I’ve only recently ventured into savory oats–but I’ve not gone down the spicy path yet. As a fellow hot sauce enthusiast (sriracha is my baby; my sister shares the same affection for frank’s as you do), I can’t wait to try this combo!
