Technically, today was supposed to be the last day of our 3 week detox.
That’s right! Waffles were in order!
Classic waffles. Butter. Syrup. Powdered sugar.
I had 1. And a half.
Sadly, I had to work early today. Inventory. Yuck. So I couldn’t see him off. It’s going to be a long 2 weeks until I see him again!
After working for a couple hours, my manager treated us to some coffee! My first coffee of the new year! A tall soy misto.
I also had a Mojo bar that I had brought with me. I wasn’t sure when lunch was going to be.
It’s the first time since I had this bar. I liked it. I thought it might have been a tad sweet. I was hoping for more salty. But still good and totally worth the $1 I spent on it!
Um, yeah. I worked until 3pm without lunch. So I just went home early! I devoured the tupperware of pilaf I had packed myself, without even heating it up!
It wasn’t quite enough so I had a string cheese too!
String cheese is such a good little snack! I missed it while on the detox!
So after going basically without any meat for three weeks (except some fish), I knew I wanted some serious meat action for dinner.
Go big or go home, right?
I roasted this lil guy after I stuffed him with rosemary, lemon, and garlic and sprinkled him with salt, pepper, and paprika.
There is oddly something really domestic about cooking a whole chicken. Or turkey. Or ham. Or whatever have you.
I paired it with a tiny sweet potato and some steamed broccoli.
And I had myself a leg and thigh.
It wasn’t really all that much meat. Mostly bone in there.
Look at that massive portion of broccoli! Good thing the boy ain’t home to deal with the repercussions!
I picked apart the chicken and made some stock. Also incredibly domestic of me.
And there is something wholly satisfying about the experience. Something about using every bit of the chicken. Sort of rustic. Not to mention, delicious!
I spent my evening watching a couple movies and goofing off on the internet. A complete bum. This is what happens when the boy leaves. I feel drained and don’t want to do anything productive.
HA! Who am I kidding?!? I always feel that way!
But now that the detox is over, I’ve made a little mini-pact with myself to make the effort to go to the gym on days that I don’t work at Nordie’s. We’ll see how that goes.
Look for my in-depth detox reflections post sometime this week! I want to mull over it for a bit.
Time for me to start a new book!
